Salzburg, nestled in the West of Austria, close to the border to Germany, is one of the gems of central Europe, both architecturally and scenically, offering an inspiring mix of mountain views and historic monuments. The city boasts some outstanding examples of baroque and Romanesque architecture. It is also the birthplace of Mozart, whose memory is preserved in several museums and through regular musical events such as The Salzburg Festival. It was also the setting for The Sound of Music. Some of the major tourist attractions include the Salzburg Fortress, Mirabell Palace and Gardens and Hellbrunn.
