INFORMATION ABOUT FLANDERS | |
The Belgian region of Flanders occupies the Northern half of Belgium. It is here you can find six, distinct but equally interesting, cities in a 50 mile radius. They are Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges, Mechelen and Leuven and numerous delightful small towns and villages in-between. Brussels combines the elegance of its uptown boulevards and sophistication with warmth and provincial charm. Antwerp is boisterous and energetic with a mighty river, a soaring cathedral, a great painter, provocative fashion designers, chic and funky restaurants and a maze of little streets to get lost in. Ghent's city center is a pedestrian maze of little streets, all leading to the focal point of Ghent: the St Michael bridge from where you can see the three fabulous gothic towers: the Cathedral of St. Bavo, the St. Nicolas church and the Belfry, to the left the Graslei and behind you the Gravensteen. Wherever you go in Flanders you are never far away from the next cafe or the next fabulous beer and there are more festivals, concerts, opera and ballet performances than you can pack in any given week. |
