INFORMATION ABOUT CAHORS | |
The medieval city of Cahors is the capital of the Lot department of southern France, located on a rocky peninsula, about 89 km (55 miles) North of Toulouse. Cahors is best known for the almost-legendary red wine grown in picturesque vineyards around the city. Bed and breakfast travelers should also visit the towns signature monument, the Pont Valentre, a magnificent fortified bridge and St. Etienne Cathedral. Cahors has a wonderful selection of restaurants, shops and markets with locally grown produce. The stunning cliff-edge village of St.-Cirq-Lapopie is worth a visit, as is the village of Rocamadour with its castle and ramparts and the nearby famous caves in the Causse du Quercy. |
